Karaka 2021 saw a different sale to what we have ever experienced. With no International buyers on the complex we had to step up our online marketing, as well as advertising more directly towards overseas trainers and owners. The sale was busier than expected, with our Yearlings behaving impeccably and this is reflected in our results.
Lot 276 Tavistock x Belongs In Lights filly started our sale off on a high note selling to Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $310,000. An exciting sale as we will see her racing in the same colours as Group 1 winning 2018 Highden Park Karaka Gradate in Toffee Tongue. Lot 377 War Decree x Enthusabelle sold for $105,000 to Roger James and Rob Wellwood, followed by Lot 404 Tavistock x Fistfulofdollars selling to Michael Hickmott Bloodstock for $160,000. These results landed us in the leading vendor by average top 3 which exceeded our expectations.
Book two was a very consistent sale for us, with our top lot being our Spill The Beans x Enduring colt selling to John Bary for $70,000. This horse was special to everyone on the farm as he was owned by everyone. John picked the horse from the beginning so it was exciting to see him go to such a great home.
We ended the sale with 100% clearance rate, and all our horses going to the best homes. Back on the farm now we are getting into foal handling and weaning, getting our stock ready for the 2022 Karaka Yearling Sale.
