We’re driven by a love for what we do
Fortunately, that philosophy translates to incredible results on the track
At Highden Park, we see your horse as an individual. Our farm is small by choice, so that all our horses can be given the highest level of care and attention. We treat each one as our own, and know that it’s never too early to start on their education.
Things are done a little differently here, and we believe that’s our secret. From foaling down through to sales preparation and agistment, every step of the process is tailor-made to suit each horse and get the best results for our clients.
The Highden Park story begins with Libby, Sam and a beautiful piece of rolling countryside
Libby had been passionate about horses for as long as she could remember. She dedicated her life to working with them across nurseries all over the world, from Coolmore in Ireland to Darley in England and Vinery Stud in America. She and Sam, a mechanic by trade but a natural with horses, found the farm in the Manawatu’s rolling hills in 2010, and Highden Park began.
Now, we’ve got one of the best thoroughbred breeding nurseries in the country and an enduring dedication to developing horses into elite athletes.
We believe solid self-belief is what sets a brilliant horse apart
We do everything it takes to instill this confidence in our horses, and what it takes is a hands-on approach. Our horses leave our farm knowing they can reach their full potential.
They grow fast, and we’ve known from the start that it’s not enough to simply keep up. We stay one step ahead of our horses to help every single foal, weanling and yearling stride confidently into their next stage of life.
This level of care ripples through everything we do here, whether it’s walking the mares out for mating or learning exactly what makes each horse tick. We know that at the end of the day, winners are built on trust and confidence.
We train with unwavering focus
You only get one shot at educating a young horse, and we come at it with nothing less than unfaltering drive and determination. It’s a simple formula, really, with dedication to what we call the Three E’s: education, exercise and eating. We know each horse inside out, from what fuels them to how much activity they need, and take absolutely every opportunity for learning and improvement.
We’re a small team with a big extended family
We like to look at Highden Park as a puzzle with pieces that fit together beautifully: our land, our dedicated team, and each and every one of our horses and their owners. Our reputation is built on a high standard of trust and communication, and we pride ourselves on that.
